Shailaputri is one of the nine forms of the Hindu goddess Durga, who is worshipped during the festival of Navaratri, which is a nine-night Hindu celebration dedicated to the divine feminine. Shailaputri's name is derived from two words: Shaila, which means mountain, and Putri, which means daughter. Therefore, Shailaputri is often referred to as the Daughter of the Mountain.

Shailaputri is the first form of Goddess Durga, and she is depicted riding a bull and carrying a trident in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand. She is often depicted with a crescent moon on her forehead and is associated with the planet Moon (Chandra). Shailaputri represents the embodiment of the power and energy of the Mother Goddess and is believed to symbolize the start of a new beginning.

Shailaputri, an incarnation of Durga, is identified as Adishakti. Jasmine flower is dear to Shilaputri who is dressed in white. Bull is also her vehicle, hence the name Vrisharudha. She has the Moon which is the hypnotist and the Trishul which is the symbol of Tamoguna.

Born as the daughter of Himalaya and first, among the Navdurgas, Shailaputri literally means daughter (putri) of the mountain (shaila). According to the mythology, Shailaputri was born in the house of the King of Mountains, Himalayas and was thus known as β€œShailaputri”.
